India

India is the largest country in the Indian Subcontinent and shares borders with Pakistan to the west, China and Nepal to the north, Bhutan to the north-east, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Indonesia lie to the south-east in the Indian Ocean. It is the seventh largest country in the world by area and, with over a billion people, is second only to China in population. It’s an extremely diverse country, with vast differences in geography, climate, culture, language and ethnicity across its expanse, and prides itself on being the largest democracy on Earth.

# A non-IHR entry requirement exists for travellers who are residents and nationals of Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Syria (OPV required per Indian government; at least 4 weeks prior to each arrival) has been registered with WHO.

Malaria

Transmission occurs throughout the year. Chemoprophylaxis is recommended for certain areas.

Traveller’s Diarrhoea

High risk exists throughout the country, including in deluxe accommodations. Food and beverage precautions are essential to reduce the likelihood of illness.
A Gastro Kit can be purchased from Travel Vaccination Health care, which includes prescription and non-prescription medications for presumptive self-treatment if diarrhoea occurs.
